COVID-19

Reporting a Positive Test

Reporting COVID-19 positive test results to school:

Please remember to contact the School Nurse, Angela Arnold, Principal, Shannon Dickson, or your teacher if you or your student(s) are COVID positive and in isolation and/or quarantine. The reasons for this are mostly so that we can support you and make sure we coordinate contactless materials distribution (delivery by hand or by mail) so you don't have to leave isolation/quarantine to come to the drive-by pick-up. This is also so that I can do frequent check-ins with you to support your family with information and resources in light of the fact that due to overwhelming numbers of cases the NM Department of Health is no longer conducting daily follow-up calls to positive cases. And finally, the other reason is that if you have been on campus during the time of your illness or two days prior to your symptoms we will need to coordinate possible school closure and disinfecting.

COVID-19 Prevention

  • Handwashing is one of the best ways to protect ourselves from getting sick!

  • According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), we should wash our hands for at least 20 seconds to be effective in preventing disease. MMES students will wash their hands or use hand sanitizer upon arrival, before and after lunch, before and after recess, and at the end of the day.

  • Each day before school, you as a parent/guardian should go through a checklist of possible symptoms with your students and take their temperature. Students should stay home from school if they exhibit any symptoms or have a temperature of 100.4 F or higher.

  • Sign up for Kinsa FLUency School Health Program & order a FREE thermometer.

  • Students and staff are required to wear a mask while at school, except when eating.

  • Staff, students, and visitors are required to socially distance themselves from others while at school. Social distancing means keeping a distance of at least 6 feet between one person and another.

  • Students displaying symptoms at school will wait in a designated room until a parent or approved emergency contact can pick them up.

  • Staff or visitors with symptoms or exposure to COVID-19 will not be allowed on campus.

Let me know of any way we as the School Health Office can support your student(s) this school year.
