Walking School Bus
What is a Walking School Bus (WSB)?
Walking School Bus is a group of children walking to school under the supervision of one or more adults, who have cleared a background check and have been approved. It is a planned walk that either picks your child up at home, or starts at a designated meeting spot. It is an enjoyable, healthy, safe way for everyone to walk to school together.
What are the benefits?
- It's an easy way for participating children (and adults) to receive 20 to 30 minutes of exercise.
- Children learn that walking is a natural and fun activity that they can enjoy the rest of their lives.
- Further develops a sense of community and belonging.
- Physical activity can help improve academic achievement.
What makes it safe?
- Each route is designed with your child's safety in mind.
- Walk stops (meeting points) are close to your home.
- Trained/background checked volunteer leaders walk children to school.
- Children are dropped off at the school door in time for breakfast.
